Chris Country’s Big 5: Josh Turner

Josh Turner’s had multiple chart-topping singles and has some massive ballads in his back catalogue, but if you’re not familiar with his music, where should you start? Chris Country’s Chris Stevens has selected five of his best tracks…

1.  Why Don’t We Just Dance

This is such a wonderful track – old school romance that shows off Josh’s deep, powerful voice. Roll up the carpet and dance!

2.  Hometown Girl

This is a more recent song, which went Top 5 three years ago – it’s from Josh’s excellent album Deep South.

3.  Would You Go With Me

Off the album, Your Man, this is another of Josh’s chart toppers; a great track with a moving video. Pop quiz fact: the young girl in the video is Peter Cetera’s daughter Senna.

4. Your Man

From the album of the same name, this track was co-written by Chris Stapleton (long before his solo career) and Jace Everett, who’s better known as the singer behind Bad Things, the theme tune to True Blood.

5. Long Black Train

This was Josh’s breakthrough track in 2003, all about the devil, with a funeral train playing a central part to the song. The video was shot at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.

You can hear Chris Stevens on Chris Country’s breakfast show, weekday mornings from 6am here, and take part in his famous Country Quiz, Friday night at The Long Road!
