Bec O’Malley first caught attention in 2024 when a video of him covering Dylan Gossett’s ‘Coal’ on a misty hike in the Peak District took off on TikTok, introducing audiences to his resonant vocals and unpolished charm. Growing up in Stockport, he picked up the guitar at 12 and spent years honing his craft, moving from school bands to writing his own material. Drawing on influences from both modern country and British indie artists such as Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, The La’s, Sam Fender and Oasis, O’Malley has developed a distinctive sound that balances Nashville-inspired storytelling with the realities of life in the UK. Rather than borrowing American country clichés, he puts his own experiences front and centre, creating songs that feel both familiar and uniquely his own.
Alongside building a growing audience online, O’Malley earned his stripes playing Manchester’s Irish bars while studying in Liverpool, before landing appearances at Neighbourhood Festival, supporting Weston Loney, and selling out his first headline show at Manchester’s Deaf Institute before releasing a single song. His debut release, ‘Let You Go’, became the first original track to truly take off online, racking up more than 900,000 views and showcasing the inventive storytelling that sits at the heart of his songwriting. Influenced by a writing trip to Nashville and a growing appreciation for lyrical craft, O’Malley’s songs blend country and indie influences into a sound that feels both fresh and authentic. With his debut EP on the horizon and major festival appearances continuing to build momentum, he is rapidly establishing himself as one of the UK’s most exciting emerging artists.
